Stats
Plain-English explainers for every stat computed by this site.
Running Net Points
A possession-by-possession accounting of a player's net point impact, independent of who else was on the floor.
Running Net Points — a plainer version
Imagine you sit courtside with a clipboard and credit each player for what they did on every possession. Add up the credits by the end of the night. That's RNP.
League context for RNP (percentile & rank)
How we compare a player’s season Running Net Points to everyone else in the same season slice on the site — same data as the leaderboard, with a minimum games rule.
Running Net Points — the math
Oliver's individual offensive and defensive ratings, modified by Jacobs into a per-possession running series. This page is the derivation.
RNP vs plus/minus
Plus/minus tells you what happened on the scoreboard while a player was on the floor. RNP tells you what that player specifically produced and allowed. Same dimension — points — but one is a team scalar, the other is an individual curve.
True Shooting %
A single shooting efficiency number that treats 3s, 2s, and free throws as what they actually produce — points per scoring attempt.
Points Responsible For
Points scored plus points created — credits the player for their own scoring and for the scoring they directly produced for teammates.
Dunks & Assisted Dunks
Two counts — how many dunks a player threw down, and how many of them were set up by a teammate — a cheap proxy for rim gravity and off-ball finishing.
Blocks & Contested Blocks
Box-score blocks plus a contested-block count that catches the near-blocks — a fuller picture of rim protection than the blocks column alone.
